On Tuesday, ABC announced that Michael Strahan, co-host of “Live! with Kelly and Michael” would be joining the cast of “Good Morning America.” Strahan had already been tapped by Good Morning America as a part-time correspondent, but in this move, Strahan will join the “Good Morning America” household as a full-time co-host.
Strahan himself announced his departure on “Live!” Wednesday with guest co-host Ana Gasteyer, fueling rumors of Kelly skipping out on work in response to Strahan and ABC.
With Strahan on TV every morning, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Strahan began his career as a successful football player. He had a 15-year career as defensive end for the New York Giants, setting a record for the most sacks in a season as well as bringing home the Super Bowl trophy in 2006.
Of course, contemplating his career got us nostalgic for all the ads he’s starred in over the years. We dug deep in the archives find our favorite spot starring Strahan, back when TV morning news shows were only a glint in his eyes.
In this hilarious Snickers spot from the early 2000s, the candy brand pokes a bit of fun at the long-running Cowboys-Giants rivalry. Standing in the parking lot of a stadium, Dallas Cowboys superfan taunts “big ol’ Michael Strahan,” complete with foam fingers and lines like “How bout dem Cowboys?!” Of course, being the top defensive end that he his, Strahan tackles the Cowboys fan – blame the hunger-fueled “offensive behavior.”
Who knows, maybe a couple of Snickers bars will do some good over at the set of “Live!”
